[The CW is] expanding their network and they want to expand the demographic -- get more male viewers, maybe some older viewers -- and they're doing it with [Nikita].

Because an action show starring a woman is NOT AT ALL the sort of thing that will attract viewers who happen to be female. And because there is clearly something wrong with catering to demographics who find themselves underrepresented in the shows and the target audiences on other networks.
