Transgender Day of Remembrance

a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance [...] a time to be silent and a time to speak

I mourn.
I weep for those lost, most of whose names I have never known.
I sorrow that we need this day.
I am silent for a minute of memory.

And yet.

I speak.
I rejoice.
We are here. We are alive. Is that not a thing worth rejoicing over?
I laugh.
California banned the 'trans panic' defense. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed two Title VII lawsuits against companies discrimimating against transgender people. The United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution saying transgender rights are human rights. Are these not things worth laughing for?
I celebrate.
(I'm gonna let it shine) and Lea T and Transgender Studies Quarterly and Orange Is the New Black. Are these not things worth celebrating?
I dance.
We are here. We are alive. Dance with me!
