"Ally" is a verb, not a noun. Or rather, it is a noun in the same way that "dancer" is a noun: person who dances, person who allies.
Someone who wishes to be an ally must therefore become a person who allies: a person who meets the standards of behavior expected of people who ally. It is not possible, for instance, to be a white ally while knowingly making racist remarks, or while doubling down on racist remarks after finding out they're racist remarks, because either action is a failure to ally.
Consequently, any white person who says a person of color is being oversensitive when calling out racist remarks and should take care to ensure that their oversensitivity does not leave them with no allies left? Massively, massively missing the point. A true ally—a person who allies—will not raise an objection to being asked to not say racist things. A person who objects to being expected to refrain from racist remarks—a person who does not ally—is not an ally at all.
