over the definition of "children's book"-- one of my kids ADORED Italo Calvino's "Cosmicomics" as a read-aloud. At four. Gawp. I still wonder how MUCH of it he absorbed, as he jumped from identifying letters to reading "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" at five.
