I don't know what he did. The cops got involved, so probably nothing as cheerful as your ideas. Which would kind of have to be the case anyway, to make sure he got on national TV, since odds suggested the boys wouldn't be in the Atlanta area. They must have been, because they beat Mary there (either that or this struck Dean as important enough to catch a plane for, which, now I've said it, seems the likelier scenario--the boys don't spend much time in the South), but they could have been anywhere north of Mexico City, and John knew that.
