and now my fuckin' hands hurt GAAAH. time to rewatch Disney's Beauty and the Beast (1991)! or Moana!

*watches Disney's Beauty and the Beast (2017)*

MANY FEELS

MOSTLY POSITIVE FEELS

BUT DAMN THAT IS SOME FURY

Emma Watson is a precious jewel

LUMIERE/COGSWORTH THOUGH. WE COULD HAVE HAD THAT INSTEAD OF GAY LEFOU DANCES WITH THE MAN WHO LIKED BEING PART OF THE "MAN IN A DRESS" VISUAL.

WE COULD HAVE HAD BELLE/LESBIAN BEAST

BUT YOU GAVE US GAY LEFOU

I appreciate that he wised up about Gaston (whose vicious asshole soul is really played up compared to the original) but REALLY, DISNEY, THIS IS QUEER REP?

Loved the number of people of color, especially women of color, with important roles and even just presence in crowd scenes

BUT TIANA WAS A FROG MOST OF THE MOVIE you think having these women be a wardrobe and a feather duster with wings all movie is an improvement? REALLY DISNEY?

Enchantress Agatha!

Belle's mother! Beast's mother!

Mr. Potts!

Maurice the artist!

Belle the sneaky and determined!

I wanted Belle to pick up the pistol and fucking shoot Gaston herself. I am thinking about ficcing something where Gaston's alive when Belle finds him after the curse breaks and she goes, "Oh. You're still here. Tell me why I shouldn't fucking murder you."

I'm probably buying the DVD, but damn, Disney, when you fuck up consciously included representation, you fuck up GOOD.

ETA: I wonder if Gaston is so much more an asshole because LeFou is so much more openly gay, and this increases the threat to Gaston's heterocismasculinity that having LeFou hanging around Gaston without Gaston being married to a particularly beautiful girl imposes.
