Stupid question...how come all the fics that deal with That Voicemail say that either the characters aren't sure whether it was Zachariah or Ruby who left it or they are sure that it was Ruby?

We have never ever encountered any indication that demons can imitate the voice of anyone other than the person they are possessing at that very moment, and Dean was not, in Lucifer Rising, possessed, certainly not by Ruby. In fact, unless something happened in S8 that I don't know about (please spoil me), he has never been possessed in his life. It can't have been Ruby.

Castiel told us it was him, not Bobby, in Death Takes a Holiday, and we know damn well the boys heard Bobby's voice. We saw Anna pulling the same trick on John in Song Remains the Same; we saw Anna speaking and we heard John's boss's voice. Perfect voice imitation is a thing angels are entirely capable of doing.

Zachariah: "Sam... has a part to play. A very important part. He may need a little nudging in the right direction, but I'll make sure he plays it."

Ability. Motive. Opportunity. And that quoted line sounds a fuck of a lot like a confession.
