For reasons I am looking for places where legend has it that people go (and if applicable do things) in order to gain poetic or artistic inspiration. I already have Cadair Idris and the Hippocrene spring on Mount Helicon; those are in Wales and Greece respectively, and I'm really hoping legend holds there are such places in regions other than Europe.

DuckDuckGo is not spitting back anything useful. :(

Would Odin sacrificing an eye to the Well of Wisdom (and/or hanging himself from the World Tree?) be any help? It's not specifically artistic things, but it's what I can come up with.

There are probably Shinto shrines where this happens. Possibly the Buddha tree?

Odin (and maybe Heimdall) went to Mimir's Well for wisdom, insight, and poetry. In each case, they made sacrifice - Odin an eye; Heimdall an ear.

That's all I have off the top of my head. :(
