THE PLAGUE I TELL YOU
(I was wrong, it's not 1/4 of my grade. It's 1/5. But I still have to get it fucking done in the next twenty-one hours. ARGH.)

Enticement
You can do it!
I KNOW how hard it is to write a paper where you cannot take the risk of saying what you THINK, given the odds of the instructor grading down in return!
Re: Enticement
That's not the problem. The problem is I hate the book and all its characters. Or, well, I don't hate Geraldine, but Geraldine is not very interesting either. Sonja's the one who's interesting enough a character to try to analyze, and my thesis statement (now that I have come up with a thesis to state) is all her actions in the novel derive from her having been a sex worker. We have to do the analysis in context of what we learned in class. We didn't learn a damn thing about sex work in class, and there's no articles about sex work in the text either.
Re: Enticement
Then again, I gave my kids WEIRD writing assignments to give them EXACTLY the kind of opportunity you have-- talk about a secondary character or the influence of something THEY thought was important, NOT regurgitate "the right analysis."
I wish you many useful words and NO headache from the dissonance. *G*
