Amazon (1) had device encryption opt-fucking-IN (2) doesn't have device encryption at fucking ALL.

I really badly want to tell Amazon to go fuck itself, but I think I may be too mired in the Amazon ecosystem. That's where most of my ebooks and all my tablet apps live, you see. Not to mention that's where the vast majority of my book sales come from! What few of those there are...

You're not locked in on your books! Calibre is a terrific tool that can crack Amazon's books open, convert them into other formats, organize your books and transfer them to other devices, and allow you to create your own ebooks!

Yeah, I have Calibre. I also have an awful lot of ebooks and an awful lot of lazy. And don't want to slash can't afford to buy a different tablet...

*shrug* OK, but if you do decide to switch, let me know, Kate and I can help you get the plugins you need to crack them, and then you just set it up to run before you go to bed and leave it running all night. By morning, it should have all of them done.

Most of your Amazon apps and data can likely be transferred to a compatible Android tablet with the usage of a backup utility and root access, as well. There's no need to feel too trapped into the Amazon ecosystem.
