New shiny thing I have learned just today (yay paralegal studies): when a child is adopted, as Elena was, the biological parents lose all rights to the child. Which means John being Elena's biological father means exactly jack shit, legally speaking. Elena's adoptive parents named Jenna Elena's guardian, which does have legal standing. Unless I'm forgetting something and Elena's parents never made the adoption legal?
