What is a good free software to make maps in, please? Because like. This is not quality mapmaking! (Below done in Paint.)

I've been linked to something on DriveThruRPG designed for worldbuilding (which is in fact what I'm doing) but that's thirty bucks.

Pixlr has a pretty robust free web app that provides most of the functionality that PhotoShop offers. I don't know of anything specific for maps, though.

I was hoping map-specific, really. GIMP can probably do everything Pixlr can? I just don't know how to take it and make a map with it.

I've seen this forum recommended for people looking to make maps for fantasy novels; you might find mention of/links to software there.
