[She's crying, and he doesn't know why. He asks.]

"Ladybug doesn't get to love people!" she exclaims. "Ladybug can't have friends, Ladybug can't have family, and Ladybug cannot! be! in love! It's bad enough Ladybug's starting to have acquaintances! They're targets, Chat, anyone I care about is a target, anybody who claims I care about them is a target—"

...that's heavy.

And because it's past midnight and my mind jumps wantonly sometimes, I remembered a not-so-happy idea that I tossed around before deciding I didn't really want to write the full story it would entail. Up for grabs:

In which Ladybug lets Chat Noir handle solo Akuma distraction duty for an amount of time for certain Akuma. Whether this was arranged ahead of time depends on angst levels. The purpose being, specifically, to have Ladybug arrive later to certain Akuma battles than others - to give the impression of travel time. Letting her classmates live in fear longer, just to mislead Hawkmoth into thinking that Ladybug doesn't go to Françoise Dupont.

...it's a level of paranoia and overthinking I found it hard to attribute to canon Marinette, but one who'd had too many close calls and overthought things too much...maybe. It was a thought and I felt I had to type it somewhere, and Marinette's desperate despair in this snippet made me think of it.
