Henry Ward Beecher

omfsm I'm writing again \o/

Title: Henry Ward Beecher
Rating: PG
Summary: Post-6x22. Castiel really does want Sam and Dean to love him, and he thinks he knows the way to their heart. Also, fingerpainting used to be fun.
Pairings: None.
Warnings: Canonical character death.
Word Count: 200

Adam remembers being little and fingerpainting with his mother, on one of the rare occasions that Mom was home and awake when Adam was. Trees and house and sky, and a tiny palm print to sign the work of art.

Adam remembers being grown and fingerpainting with his mother, in heaven after Sam won a chess game with Death to ensure Adam's safe journey to Mom's little slice of heaven; Sam wouldn't leave the cage without Adam. It might be one of Mom's happiest memories, it might be one of Adam's. He has no way to know.

Now Adam is torn out of paradise, again, at the whim of an angel whose pride, please God, goeth before his fall, as a bribe for his brothers. Sam asked for Dean, so Dean's the one who's making sure Sam doesn't hit anything too hard when he seizes, while Adam dips his fingers in blood and paints according to Dean's hastily drawn sketches.

It's not hell—Adam knows from hell, even if Sam sheltered him from almost all of it—but it sure feels close.

Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures. —Henry Ward Beecher

Poor Adam, being dragged from pillar to post by his bio-dad's family shenanigans which he had *nothing* to do with in his life... though his afterlife did wind up ridiculously busy for all that.

I love that Sam played chess with Death for Adam. I wonder whose idea that was :D

I can see Death deciding that. He doesn't quite cheat, but he definitely is playing by his own rules to get his job done. I like him a bunch.
