Troy Davis is dead. Even though odds are he was never anywhere near the crime he was convicted of. (When all the witnesses, or damn near all, recant the testimony that got him convicted in the first place? That ought to make an appeals court stop and think.)

I hate being an American.

I'd like to crawl under the bed and hide, please. *sigh*

Because our courts have sort of abandoned that original notion and have been treating defendants as innocent until proven guilty (especially if they're black). Because vengeance is more important than identifying the correct fucking target for your vengeance. Because someone paying, anyone, is more important than the fact that that someone is innocent, or the fact that the person who committed whatever atrocity that needs avenged goes very much free if you execute someone innocent in their place.

I really don't think killing someone is the morally worst thing you can do. I think knowing killing someone who didn't fucking do the thing you're killing them for, that might qualify.

*sigh*
