Mother. I asked for help financing a new computer purchase, because my computer is old. I didn't even ask to borrow money; I asked to loan you money for a few months so that it would be somewhere I cannot spend it while saving for the new computer.

I did not ask for another round of the money lecture.

Is there someplace else you can stash the money? A secondary bank account or somesuch? Since it sounds like your mother is going to be unhelpful in the extreme.

The other option I can think of: does your local credit union offer short-term CDs with a low minimum deposit, or a Christmas Club-type savings account that's time-limited in when you can take the money back out?

Vacation/Christmas Club accounts, yes. 'Share certificate' may be the same thing as 'CD'? I will ask at credit union.
