He had ulterior motives in seeking her out, namely, looking for someone who could beat Michael or Lucifer or preferably both. Turned out he liked her for herself.

The sad thing is, on her home turf, she could have kicked archangel ass with ease. But when she tried, she was in the US, and the US is predominantly Christian, and lots and lots of those Christians believe in Michael and rather more believe in Lucifer and hardly anybody in the US believes in Kali.
