Regarding Supernatural 8x01:

Something I just remembered about the casting call for Kevin?

It was GENDER-NEUTRAL.

We could have had Keisha the Prophet instead, everything else the same, and Channing's death would fall under the Tragic Lesbians pattern rather than the Fridge Woman To Produce Angst And Plot For Man pattern.

We could have had Keisha the Prophet and her boyfriend Charles, everything else the same, and it would be NEW AND DIFFERENT. Men don't GET fridged. The usual way of producing angst and plot for a female character is to hurt HER.

But no. We got Kevin and his girlfriend Channing, round four (at least) on this show of fridging a woman to produce angst and plot for her husband or boyfriend.

Really, people, at least show some creativity.
