You know that icon, the one that's got Sam Winchester shirtless from neck to juuuust above low-slung jeans, nothing to distract from the muscles and tattoo, and the caption is "Supernatural: I watch for the plot"?

If I were to make such an icon for Lost Girl (providing I can find a good cap; I think if there were a frontal-shirtless-female scene I'd remember it, and I don't know the show well enough to be sure of which scenes I do remember are in which ep), would that be good because gender equity, or bad because contributing to seeing women as solely sexual objects? If bad, would that be affected if I include Bo's face in the icon? Which I think I'd have to do anyway, I don't remember her having any distinguishing characteristics similar to Sam's tattoo, and I want anyone with at least a passing familiarity with the show to be able to identify the show without reading the caption, as can be done with the Sam icon.

I watch Supernatural because ... ZOMG those boys are dumb as a box of hammers and I am so glad I don't have to do research for them or clean up after them. Plot? The plot is cheesecloth. But fun to poke more holes in.

Given that the Winchester one is a deliberate gendered subversion of the old "Playboy: I read it for the articles" joke, I think the latter reference is more likely to come to people's minds.

The best part of this is that your post showed up just above a post with an icon of half-naked Neal Caffrey with "I watch for the plot" on it. LOL

And FWIW I think it would be basically neutral. If anybody should say that it's a bad thing to objectify women when fandom tends to be wall-to-wall objectification of men, I'd have a very hard time not laughing in their faces. 99% of our entertainment choices are all about looking at very attractive people, and that's just the way people are.

I don't really know? But you have perhaps inspired me to make a bunch of Avengers icons. I just can't decide whether to start with Hawkeye's forearms or Captain America's ass. But then what would I allegedly watch if for? The snappy one-liners?
