what the hell, nothing else to do today (from snickfic)
In honor of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.' Comment "trick-or-treat" to this post and...well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, one sentence fics, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, etc. etc.).

Rick had snuck in a small oil lantern somehow, which was sitting on the table by Mary's bed, filled with oil, provenance Rick wasn't saying. He wasn't explaining the candy next to the lantern, either. He'd painted designs on the wall with vinegar, after showing Dean (and John, who'd known, and Sammy, who couldn't understand) how to apply red cabbage juice to a vinegar design on paper to reveal Rick's sketch of the Impala. Mary didn't balk till Rick sliced open his forearm, but shut up when he pointed out that he'd tried various other inks up to and including blood acquired from a kosher butcher, none of which had worked for the purpose; it'd be tricky enough making the thing work when the person activating it wasn't the person who'd used their own blood to paint it and when the thing was painted quite small.
"Wait, Loki?" Mary asked when Rick got far enough into the ritual for her to identify its target. Rick held a finger to his lips, then pointed roughly where the symbol was painted in blood. John shifted in his seat, wanting, Mary thought, to put down Dean and Sammy and pick up a weapon that wasn't there.
Rick finished the summoning, waited for a five-count, snagged a Kit-Kat, stepped into the corridor, and threw. A yelp; he waved his hand in a beckoning gesture and stepped back into the room.
A white man followed him in, Kit-Kat in hand. Not short, exactly, but Rick towered over him; of course Rick had three or four inches on even John. "Hellooo," the man said, looking at Mary. "Trickster. Not healer."
"Eat your candy," Rick said.
The man, Loki, caught sight of the lit lantern. "Where did you get that?" he demanded.
"It isn't meant as a threat," Rick said. "I just want to make sure, without saying anything that unwelcome interested parties might overhear, that we understand each other."
The scene's gonna get rewritten. Probably. Maybe. This doesn't count as starting early, does it?

I do like it when you write from Mary's POV -- you're really good at sketching out who she might have been.
