Are you still stuck? Did you use the umbrella while falling? (I had to read someone else's hint to get that. It's hilarious, but hardly intuitive!) IIRC, what you find at the bottom is what gets you into the temple...

The crystal is the very last thing you use. You'll go through a bunch of other items first.

Less 'stuck', more 'posted this, went to sleep, got up, showered, ate, went to work, just got home, have not yet had opportunity to try the hint that somebody else left during my sleep cycle'. While falling, huh? Because the hint was 'think Mary Poppins', and all I could think was 'but I already tried the umbrella while staring up the sinkhole...'

*tries* Aha!

...and the egg gets me up the sinkhole? Talk about counterintuitive.

Yay for winning through! It was a wacky, fun game. I particularly liked the entering-the-story way you get to the cities (and take items out with you, retroactively packing them!) and the stranger item uses, like the egg. I don't know if you tried it in different places, but if you use it in Atalante, it tells you that using a construction platform in the middle of the square will get you arrested - which is a great hint of what it's for.
