Life lesson: measure the place where the furniture needs to be, then buy the furniture. Do not buy furniture on impulse.
Next step, sorting through the crap that's on my desk into which shelf it goes on, or a file folder if applicable. And my file-folder crate does indeed fit on top of my new bookshelves. Woot.
