Easter Mass was...bad. Catholics may wish not to read this.
What 'Catholic' Means
You promised me I was welcome
That's what 'catholic' means
Universal
All-encompassing
Pertaining to all kinds of people
Then you told me I'm unwelcome
Do you know what 'bisexual' means?
Or 'woman'?
Or 'mercy killing'?
Because I would rather die
Than stay pregnant
Than marry a man I do not love
Because the woman I do love is denied me
Than live in incurable
Unendurable
Pain
I am supposed to be welcome
That's what 'catholic' means
But you took Easter Sunday
The year's most joyous day
For Christians
And you made it about hate
Hating the person who dare not stay pregnant
Hating the person who hurts too much to live
Hating the person who happens to love wrongly
When you say 'wrongly'
You're wrong
I'm not Christian anymore
This is why
I am supposed to be welcome!
That's what 'catholic' means!
Why am I upset?
You kicked me out long ago
Except you have no interest
In actually kicking me out
Saying I am Catholic no more
I asked you to
I got no response
I am supposed to be welcome!
That's what 'catholic' means!
You want me to be Catholic
You tell me I am not welcome
Make up your mind
I am not Catholic
Because I am not welcome!
'Catholic' isn't what 'catholic' means!
Of all the Sundays in the year, the one which is least meant to be a polemic on abortion and euthanasia and marriage equality (and how all the evidence points to the truth of the resurrection but one is incapable of believing that without a leap of faith) is Easter Sunday.
Guess what we got in the homily?
