stop. STOP.

No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.

That is the Twenty-Seventh Amendment to the US Constitution right there. The only way we are going to get the current crop of congresscritters to not be paid during this shutdown is with a Time-Turner, okay? Stop insisting the congresscritters need to not get paid during the shutdown. Stop trying to get me to sign petitions to get the congresscritters not paid during the shutdown. And start insisting that, because the congresscritters should not but will get paid during the shutdown, every last congresscritter needs to donate to charity the whole of their federal paycheck for the duration of the shutdown. Ideally a not-politically-controversial charity: say, the congresscritter's local food bank.

Seconded. (...and food-banks would be a good source of donation, as it's the Republican representatives' fault that there will be reduced funding for them!)

I think that is the better idea, to get the people who can't get their jobs done to give their salary to the food bank to feed the people hurt by their inability to do those jobs.
