Apparently it is National Coming Out Day?
Hi. I'm pansexual. I'm genderqueer. Nice to meet you.
(I think this is the first time I've said I'm pansexual, instead of I'm bisexual. But
kate_nevpeu has a post up pointing out that 'bisexual' is "the commonly-understood term for being attracted to a gender other than your own and your own", which makes ever so much more sense than 'attracted to both women and men'. And it occurred to me that, never mind who I'm sexually attracted to, I've only ever encountered a couple other female-agender genderfluid people. And I am attracted to members of more than one gender. So it is time to revise my identifiers.)
(Speaking of revising identifiers, I'm thinking of changing my username. 'Ellie' is short for 'Elizabeth' and it's a nickname nobody offline uses, and 'Murasaki' is for Shikibu-san, author of The Tale of Genji which is supposed to be the first novel, which is why I picked both parts when I chose this handle. But I've concluded 'Elizabeth' is not my name [dunno what my name is yet, but that's not it] and there's a nonzero possibility that my white ass using a Japanese name in my handle is culturally appropriative [I have learned so much on that subject since I chose this handle].
somethingseanchai? I'm half Irish, it wouldn't be appropriative, but I dunno what the first part would be.)

The names I keep coming back to are Rowan and Alexandria. 'Rowan' is from the Anglicized Irish for 'red' and I'm a redhead whose ancestry is half Irish and significant fraction English (not to mention entirely English-speaking), and 'Alexandria' for the library. I do not think it is coincidental that these are the names I decided would be the middle names for my pen name, when I was pondering my pen name. Elizabeth Alexandria Rowan Conall.
But I did not put much thought into that name. I just grabbed a couple names I liked to go with my wallet first name and an Irish equivalent to my German surname. Also I thought it was amusing to have the initials be EARC. Electronic advance reader copy. And really, do I want to name myself for my hair color? And 'Alexandria' is invariably read as feminine, though I am going to insist that, seeing as it's a city name, it's gender-neutral. Shortening to 'Alex' is gender-neutral, of course.
There's a few other names I like--Kelly, Quinn, Terry, Andy--but I keep coming back to Alexandria Rowan Conall.
(I need to learn Greek. If only to learn how one would compose a name with the meaning of 'defending women' the way 'Alexander' means 'defending men'. Alexogyne?)
(Also to translate Sappho my own self.)

:)
Well...
As for choosing names, that's up to you. I don't believe that ancestors have the right to choose name, language, politics, religion, cultural affinity, or anything else for those of us living now. It's your life. You do what you want with it.

And of course I knew you by another name first, over yonder in Ye Olde Slacktivist.
Also, pan/omni-but-used-to-ID-as-bi high five!
