I recently re-watched the SPN pilot and man: it's so odd to see how the show has progressed from "traveling around small towns taking out evil local legends" to "grandiose heaven-hell-and-earth shattering drama." I get the sense when I'm watching that it's very possible that the show itself is some kind of supernatural entity whose evil power is to make me keep watching it no matter how much I'm yelling at the screen and getting angry at the tropes presented - though I do get a real kick out of how it's acknowledged and responded to fandom.
