Since the issue of politeness and calm in addressing oppressors has come across my radar again:

"Letter from Birmingham Jail" is one of the least polite, least calm things I've ever read. And that includes all the things with swearing. Tell me again why I am obliged to be nice to people who are telling me to my face that I don't deserve full human rights?

I don't understand it either. I'm not obliged to be nice and polite to virulent racists, homophobes, transphobes etc.
