Things I do not have time for no really brain stop it: a novel (or three or five) exploring the concept of magical-girl anime from the PoV of someone who's grown up watching magical-girl anime.
...rec me other-than-Sailormoon magical-girl anime?

So far as prose goes, though, there's a rather old (2002) work of online fiction called sailor nothing, which is a magical-girl story from the PoV of someone who's grown up watching magical-girl anime. It's also quite dark, with a lot of warnings. I enjoyed it when I first read it, and I thought it had a lot of really cool hypertext stuff going on, but I haven't re-read it recently. I can only hope it hasn't been visited by the suck fairy.

Nod, thanks. I will read the story pretty soon. I'm marathoning Sailormoon, what there is of it on Hulu.
