a black man is killed by US cops every twenty-eight hours, on average. mike brown is not unique.

The shocking thing about Ferguson, Missouri isn't that this particular murder exploded. The shocking thing, given the sheer number of these murders, is that we don't get a Ferguson a week.

Schools in Ferguson have been closed since Monday, and some of those kids rely on school meals. If you have a few spare dollars, help feed those kids.

Another thing for if you have a few spare dollars: bail and legal fund for those arrested in Ferguson protests.

Here's a list of US cities with National Moment of Silence vigils tonight at 7 Eastern, 4 Pacific.

To sum up the text on the graphic: The cops started it, before looters got involved. Most of the people involved are neither cops nor looters. There are a whole bunch of illegal and rights-infringing things going on in Ferguson—evicting the media, telling citizens they'll be arrested if they film police activity, shooting rubber bullets and tear gas at peaceful protesters—and the cops are doing all of it. There were no homicides in Ferguson in 2014 until Mike Brown. Keep peaceful.

People from Gaza are standing in solidarity with people in Ferguson, even tweeting tips on how to handle being tear-gassed.

I can't find the photo of the paper with the protesters' demands, but they're heartbreakingly minimal: Identify, fire, and charge with murder the cop who murdered Mike Brown. Make the Ferguson police procedural manual public. Make the Ferguson police department demographics reflect the demographics of Ferguson.

Simple requests, that those in power will use everything they can to deny, because giving up the power and doing service to the community would mean having to treat people as people, instead of as suspects that currently lack evidence.
