Poll #3920 latest from the sexuality course
Open to: Registered Users, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 7
Deviance in sexual behaviors is defined in your text as all of the following EXCEPT
View Answers
involving pain or humiliation
0 (0.0%)
going against the religious or moral beliefs of a culture
4 (66.7%)
statistically infrequent
2 (33.3%)
involving a persistent preference for nongenital sexual outlets
0 (0.0%)
Ticky!
I checked the book. All four of those are defined as deviant. I put 'statistically infrequent', because by that measure vanilla sex eight times a week would be deviant, but I'm curious what y'all think.
I'm also curious why the book doesn't give the common names for half the stuff it mentions in this chapter. I'd never heard the terms urophilia or hypoxyphilia before. They mean watersports and breathplay.
Also I fucking HATE fucking Blackboard. And fucking dial-up. The discussion boards on Blackboard don't let me see more than one post at a time, and the test I'm in the process of taking loads no more than one question at a time and prohibits backtracking. Both of these take quite long enough to load on high-speed. And because the dial-up randomly disconnected while I was on seventy-two and when I reloaded the test it put me on thirty-something (proof), I am now clicking 'next question', waiting a few seconds for the 'This assessment prohibits backtracking' page to load, clicking OK, waiting twenty to thirty seconds for the next question to load, clicking 'next question', waiting a few seconds for the 'This assessment prohibits backtracking' page to load, clicking OK, waiting twenty to thirty seconds for the next question to load...did I mention this is a timed test? I've got less than ten minutes on the timer and I'm still on question fifty-three.
Emailed professor re above. Hello, I am away from campus till Tuesday July,27th. I will respond to any emails that come in during my absence on my return. Argh.

I took twelve hundred words to say: fandom, fandom, and fandom; consent is hella important (I should probably post that, because I really like how I got the whole warnings issue to tie back to consent) and your kink is not my kink and everybody's kink is okay; none of your business, see also YKINMK; the media does a sucky job portraying sexuality and religious and government institutions can fuck right off.
(Strangely enough, nobody answered.)

Your class sounds infuriating.

It's probably a good thing I took it online. Otherwise either I'd flip my shit twice a class or I'd never say a word.

I mean, it still ain't right. But it's also a whole different world, and practically a different reality. (See also: archipelago of weird) These days, when I see "deviant" I read "what the insurance companies will allow us to bill them to treat".

But yeah. It's a problem, really--people avoid shrinks because the shrinks are clueless, and then because they never see them, the shrinks get even MORE clueless. And the whole field has this ableist idiotic arrogance and an Us/Them divide a million miles wide.
