I wouldn't have minded if the seller I just bought two books from via Amazon (there was cheapest, sue me) had shipped them together and pocketed the difference between shipping two packages and shipping one heavier one. Honest I wouldn't have. That's part of the reason I bought those books from the same seller instead of getting one for a few cents less from someone else, so they'd be shipped together. So naturally my shipping notification says they're being shipped separately but simultaneously.

Thus wasting packaging too. I'm like you, the shipping expenses on Amazon are not variable for individuals (though companies determine their own costs) so I'm generally buying with that understanding. But I once had somebody complain to me about an Ebay charity auction where I'd overestimated the shipping expenses by about $1.50 and he wanted a refund.
