So apparently I just watched the most recent Once Upon a Time? (My middle sister's idea.) Clearly (1) they're more messing with Disney movies than with fairy tales (which I'm sure all y'all figured out long since) (2) I need to watch from the beginning (I left off a few episodes in to season one and forget why).

I also just watched a Doctor Who and if all the episodes are that horror-riffic, no. Not happening. Not watching another one ever.

Most recent Doctor Who

That is hands-down the WORST episode I have ever seen, worse than the PREGNANT MOON. Worse than the stuff I saw in the SEVENTIES.

Seriously, I want every SECOND of that time back, and I couldn't even FINISH an episode.

Tell me what you want in an episode, and I'll suggest an episode which will hopefully eradicate the terrible impression.

Several episodes of the show have been powerful enough to make me cry. Several of them have been scary-creepy, but in a way I can actually enjoy, which is rarer than hen's teeth.

The Doctor meeting Shakespeare, complete with magic-using aliens, references to JK Rowling's seventh book (before it came out), and speculations about Shakespeare's flirting... that's the mix of camp, fourth-wall jokes, happy ending, and pop culture entwined in odd ways with the plot or setting-- yes, it's totally absurd, but it feeds my inner child, LOL.

The Doctor and Vincent made me cry.

"Just this once, Rose, everybody lives!"

And I'm tearing up enough to interfere with TYPING that.

The Doctor reminds me, time and again, that TRYING to do the right thing, trying to make the world better, safer, more welcoming... it MATTERS.

When the Doctor drifts away from that, good writers SHOW him struggling with the consequences, and the emotional fallout.

Congratulations, you have managed to start watching the longest-running science-fiction show, ever, with the SINGLE WORST EPISODE-- EVER.

I swear, I feel like I should send you FLOWERS!

Seriously ((((HUUUGS)))). I want brain bleach to get rid of any trace of that crapfest! I couldn't watch more than the first quarter!

A summary of the plot doesn't convey the level of campy, 'just run with it' amusement in certain scenes, nor the very, very expressive faces of the actors, but this will clue you into the kinds of running 'fourth wall' interactions the GOOD episodes have. (And it won't take long to read!) If someone you know has "Series Three," it's the second episode in the series/season.

A person of taste and refinement, your sister!

(LOL.)

Are you at least feeling better w/re:wisdom teeth? And has anyone told you about using tea bags (plain, black tea) to diminish the bleeding? PM me for details.

if caffeine doesn't keep you awake, take your pain meds with whichever caffeine delivery system you prefer (cola, tea, coffee), because it dilates the blood vessels and makes the delivery a little bit faster and a LOT smoother.

I loathe taking even ibuprofen for pain management, but have been taking hydrocodone for a new PITA, which is finally dying down to a level I can cope with simply because I have to take the ibuprofen for arthritis pain anyway. I noticed a DISTINCT improvement in the way the hydrocodone works with caffeine versus without, so give it a shot.

Sometimes a soothing temperature did more for the wisdom-teeth pain than medication. A warm cloth against your jaw, or a cold one, depending on your preferences, is a good addition because you can use it repeatedly without worrying about total "dosage."

Yeah, that was the worst episode of Doctor Who I have seen in the last five years. So, if you feel like giving it another chance, it will probably be far, far better! :)
