Work shit was supposed to be getting easier as we all got used to the new system. It's not. I mean, I narrowly avoided an anxiety meltdown Monday and haven't come close to one since, but other than that it's not getting better.

I am probably doing three hours of overtime tonight, because I can. Why, self? WHY?

Renters' insurance: sorted. Electric: sorted. Security deposit and September rent: sorted yesterday. There is now nothing that can keep me from getting my apartment keys on the 18th.

I'm still one essential short—Internet—but I need to comparison shop modems. There's no point setting up my Comcast account until I have the device to connect my computer to the Internet, you know? And I ain't renting one at ten bucks a month when the expected cost of buying one is in the double digits; that's just silly.

Also my router and modem have been ordered but I do not think I can actually do the Comcast thing until I update my debit card's billing address (my credit union has no online option for "this change goes into effect as of"), or at any rate till it is within five business days of my getting the keys (because I have to have the self-install package shipped to the service address, apparently). Well. Moving weekend ought to be amusing. Wait, no, the other thing. At least I should avoid the dire fate of being XKCD 1077?

Ghosts of Home by Sam J. Miller. Foreclosures in a world with house spirits as a widely known thing—sufficiently widely known that the banks hire people to go around making offerings to the spirits of foreclosed-on homes.

I am not sure how to describe my reaction to this story, but "go read this" is a fairly good nutshell.
