tmi?

I think I have a wisdom tooth coming in.

Mom's like "...Tylenol? Whiskey? Wait, you're not really a whiskey person..." Um, thanks, real helpful?

(owww.)

ETA: No whiskey to be found in the house. Even though Mom swears she is still in possession of the bottle her parents gave her when I was first teething. Brandy worked. Did the rinse-and-spit thing and it hurts much less now. Also glugged eight ounces of apple cider, because ye gods brandy is nasty.

I am however no longer sure the problem is actually the tooth. Poking at the sore spot with my tongue leads me to the conclusion that the sore spot is the inside of the cheek above the tooth.

When my daughter was teething, we gave her ibuprofen (she was allergic to infant Tylenol, something she has, thank goodness, outgrown). It really seemed to help. Judging by how babies and small children act, chewing on something, putting pressure on the area that's hurting, can help. They used to make chew toys that could be frozen (I think they stopped because it turned out the plastics involved were kind of toxic), so maybe applying ice would help?

Honestly, mine were Extremely Impacted and while we were waiting for me to have a free week for extraction, ice cream and shakes helped a lot. Orajel got used a lot too. (The 3x strength Orajel, I have on good authority, is Really Helpful for "Why does dental insurance suck so much?" issues.)

Strong mouthwash, garlic (cut a clove in half, put the cut part as close to directly on the spot as you can, suck on it for a little while), and cloves (if your teeth can stand it, put a whole clove in your mouth and crunch it as near to the spot as you can) all help dull tooth pain for me, if any of those seem better than brandy. Vanilla extract dabbed on the spot too, but that one's also pretty gross.

If it's in the cheek/gums, it might be a canker sore. Those hurt like hell. The first time I got one, I thought I was going to lose a tooth because I was sure there was something terribly, terribly wrong.

Well, U could call of the dentist and ask for an appointment just to figure out what it is, if your insurance is that good. Let the docs figure it out, use all the home remedies above for now. Good luck!

I hope one of the remedies suggested works for you. All I know is the brandy solution. Feel better soon!

Ow. Hopefully something works too dull the pain, and an oral specialist can be seen sufficiently swiftly for the pain not to be regular.
