Sooooo guess who just discovered that AO3 preview was perfectly happy with the ladybug emoji in HTML format—you know, 🐞 = 🐞—and, in production, it fucking ATE both the first such emoji and everything afterwards.

(Also I somehow omitted a small scene in that fic altogether and I dooon't think I can blame AO3 for that.)

anyway go reread "guard your eggshell heart", it's fixed now

ye-ah, this is a thing, full HTML cleaning not routinely getting applied to previews aaaaaaaaaand then when you actually submit the thing it does.

it *might* be worth copypasting the emoji directly and seeing if that works -- it sometimes does a better job of things.
