I just heard about your choosing to uninvite Ellen Hopkins from the Teen Lit Fest because one of your school librarians and a few of her students' parents are offended by the contents of Ms. Hopkins's books.
This is the first I have ever heard of Ms. Hopkins. I know nothing about her books save what was mentioned in the discussion of this incident. It doesn't matter.
We are talking about a LIBRARY. A public library, available to everyone, or at least to everyone in that middle school. If there is anyone anywhere who can walk into any library and not find at least one book to be offended by, that library's collection is not large enough.
Censorship such as that which you are engaging in is antithetical to the mission of a public library. I am offended, personally as well as on the behalf of Ms. Hopkins and of your students, that you chose to censor your library and your lit fest.
