Post a random sentence (or three) from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, you'll get talking about writing, and the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!

1) "Who are you?" she demands, and Dean recognizes her voice.

"Hi, Jess," Dean says. "Where's Sam?"

2) Jess spends an hour in the motel bathroom, admiring her new skirt suit and fiddling with her new makeup, while Sam and Dean (mostly Dean) hassle her through the bathroom door.

"Makeup is important!" Jess hollers back. "You don't want me blowing your cover because I used the wrong shade of lipstick, do you?"

3) ...I actually have no words written for my [community profile] queer_bigbang. *sad*

1 and 2 are possibly the same WIP. Doubt it, though, because 1 is headed for [community profile] spn_bitesized's Kink Meme and my [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang beta #1 doesn't want to read threesome sex.

Somebody is reading my stories on fanfiction.net. Starting with the really embarrassing early ones. I know this because those are the ones that this person has favorited.

On the bright side, I'm 4K into my 15K minimum for [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. On the dim side, my Law Office Management homework due tomorrow is not yet done.

Noooo I am not signing up for the [community profile] queer_bigbang. Not. I have no ideas that would fit the theme. I am not good at long stories when I don't have a preexisting framework to work the story around, and y'all will surely be sick of me rewriting Supernatural, because I did that for Remix the other year and I did that for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang last year and I'm doing that for [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. Not not not.

...the differences between Supernatural as is and Supernatural if Sam had seen his boyfriend Brady die might be fascinating. I shall have to contemplate.

whydoyouneedtoknow, aka Anne Walsh, and [personal profile] damkianna. Both are fabulous authors who hit my big fic kink: MOAR LADIES = MOAR AWESOME.

damkianna avoids killing or otherwise writing out canon female characters—one of her big projects, Flying Blossoms, is a bunch of Five Thingses that are either 'five women X's mother might have been' or 'five things X's mother might have done', and in every instance the mother in question is someone never or rarely seen in Avatar: the Last Airbender. And in Imagine the Ocean and Listen to the Earth, the Avatar Gang is populated by an ever-increasing number of canon female characters. Suki. Yue. There's also a friendly Fire Nation commander OFC, Yin. The central plot point of Imagine/Listen is that Katara is the Avatar; I am dying to see what happens when damkianna gets hold of The Legend of Korra.

Anne makes use of original female characters as well as canon female characters—not that damkianna doesn't, but damkianna's epic doesn't rely on the OFCs the way Anne's epic does. The Dangerverse is named for the OFC who sets everything in motion, Gertrude 'Danger' Granger, Hermione's twenty-years-older sister who has psychic abilities and who marries Remus and with his help kidnaps Harry from his more-abusive-than-canon relatives and frees Sirius from Azkaban so that Sirius can marry OFC #2, Aletha Freeman, Lily's best friend, and with her have a kid, OFC #3, Meghan. Remus, Sirius, Danger, and Aletha collectively raise Harry, Hermione, Meghan, and Draco Black—yes you heard that right; Narcissa gets a Crowning Moment of Awesome into the bargain. And from there the changes just sort of spiral.

Anne and damkianna are the two authors I tried but failed to imitate with my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang last year, and the authors I am trying and hopefully succeeding to imitate with my [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang this year. (It helps that Anne wrote A Widow in Waiting, first of the Chronicles of Glenscar, which is the 'verse I'm crossing with Supernatural, and I have conned Anne into doing beta work for my Big Bang.)

I'll come back to day twelve.

Supernatural 3x11 MYSTERY SPOT. This is the defining episode of Sam in seasons one through five. He goes utterly batshit crazy trying to save Dean, and when he thinks Dean is beyond saving, he shuts down into superhunter mode. I can't really explain my glee over this episode but it is beyond question my favorite of the series.

Fic title: Dance or Die (These Dreams are Forever)
Artist name:[profile] ryuutchi
Genre: het, femslash
Pairing: Mary/John, Mary/Ellen
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Much character death. Also, brief rape scene.
Summary: Mary remembers. Mary lives. Everything changes. Everything stays the same.
Link to art: Art and mix
Notes: Thanks to [personal profile] neotoma and a beta who prefers to remain anonymous for their excellent work improving this fic. Any remaining suckage is entirely my fault for not listening to them. Thanks also to the mods of [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang for running this crazy train.

Guess what I'm still not doing?

The document's open. I'm staring at it. The words are just not coming. I'm going to have to post with an apology to my beta for not listening to a word she said. Either that or take off work tomorrow, and to be honest, while the Big Bang is worth losing the day's pay to me, the Big Bang is not worth dealing with Mom's reaction to my losing the day's pay.

Big Bang posting date is Tuesday and I'm bored. Am I editing the Big Bang? Do I have any inclination to edit the Big Bang?

Nope. Not in the slightest.

Gaaah tomorrow evening's gonna be FUN. 'Cause I gotta be posting-ready before bed on Monday, because Tuesday evening is entirely occupied by class.

Opened my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang file for the first time in two months. All the little things my beta pointed out are now fixed. The big things...

I am not used to this 'long story' thing. Nor to this 'editing' thing. The only other story I've ever done that was this long, I posted each section as I finished editing it, and each section was posted nearly exactly the way it was when I finished writing it. I was also a lot more confident of the characters' voices with that one. Dunno if it's because I was so much less experienced as a writer or if it's because I really did have a better grasp of those characters' voices. (Different fandom.)

I've got another three weeks to get this done, though, which will probably turn into staying up all night on the eleventh to get it done for the twelfth.

WASTING MY WEEKEND ARGH. No motivation no NOTHING. Mountain of books to read. Big Bang to edit. Soap and candles to make, though that latter might annoy Dad, he made me put away my stuff for that earlier today. TV to watch and analyze and transcribe. And while I do have motivation to watch Elena Undone, I am not spending money on additional functionality for Windows Media Player in hopes that makes the DVD play, 'specially when the additional functionality for WMP is stuff VLC is supposed to already have.

Did sign up for [community profile] ladiesbigbang. So there's that.

ETA: Now I need to clean my room so I can get at all the books I just put in a LibraryThing collection with Jess's name on it, so I can get those books onto the empty bookshelf currently inexplicably in our library, so I can do an art that's a character study of Jess.

HAH I figured it out. My Salvation OCs still die but they do not get fridged, because Meg picks them to die as they're major threats in their own right who happen to be friends of Mary's. One's working on reproducing the Colt when he dies and the other has a track record of exorcising demons.

Is it still fridging a character if she dies to create emotional impact on another female character? (Is it still fridging a character if it's a he who dies? See also, Salvation, Pastor Jim and Caleb. They got name-checked a couple times each in season one and that's all we have to explain why their deaths have such impact on John.) Also, note to self, go back and give this character some actual fleshing-out so we can see why her death has emotional impact. Also, figure out what Mary is doing in between hearing what the boys are up to.

I stared at my Big Bang some and lo and behold words appeared. I'm at five thousand even. According to Microsoft Word, which counts "sauce—but" as one word when any idiot can see it's two. (I write in HTML code. Saves time when I go to paste into DW and AO3.) And Mary's met Ellen! Finally! Dinner now, then rewatch 5x13—it was rewatching 4x03 that made words appear—then maybe more writing, depending on if the impending thunderstorm has passed.

Oh for fuck's sake brain there is more story there.

Promptfest? Give me scenarios plausible for Sam and Dean being raised by Mary in Lawrence (with some help from Missouri, because she's not fool enough to let a baby psychic sprout unattended in her town) and I'll endeavor to write said scenarios for the Big Bang, PMing you the results so you see what you prompted but nobody else does until my posting date. I'm open to Mary/Missouri in these scenarios. Sound good?

Whee up early enough to check my reading list before leaving!

Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Feel free to inquire about any of them.

My only WIP is my Big Bang, Dance or Die (These Dreams are Forever).
Mary goes for a ten-mile run every morning and comes back just as the boys are waking up. She showers, they breakfast, and Mary drives Dean to school and Sammy to Missouri's and herself to the cleaner's. That brings her from six to nine. Mary spends five hours at the cleaner's, dealing with customers and paperwork and shuffling clothes through the Spencers, and stops at Jaybird's Diner the days she can afford it; nearly every day she eats a peanut butter sandwich. Then she picks Dean up from school, feeds him a snack in the car, and they both go over to the garage, where Mary bangs on engines and does paperwork until seven. Mary picks Sammy up from Missouri's and drives the boys home for dinner at eight. The boys go to bed soon after, leaving Mary time for an hour of calisthenics before bed.

Saturdays are harder. No side trips to the school or Missouri's, just taking the boys with her to the cleaner's and the garage, which means dividing her attention between the boys and her work. Sundays are easier, in one sense. After church, Mary stays home and chases the boys through their chores and does as much of the housework as she can manage.

Thank God for Missouri. Mary doesn't know how she managed without her.

Forty-five hundred. Not bad considering I spent the evening away from keyboard and spent most of my time at the keyboard fuming at my parents. Still have no idea how I'm getting from 'Dean and Sam are seven and three' to 'Dean and Sam are twenty-seven and twenty-three'. Though I think Sammy's a older in this last scene, he's a bit articulate for a three-year-old.

Dear world, including but not limited to everyone het up by the incident in Seattle with the 'spring spheres' aka secular Easter eggs? NOT EVERYONE IS CHRISTIAN.

Dear Mom and Dad? YOUR DAUGHTER IS ATHEIST. GET USED TO IT.

Dear self? You know that bat that was flying around madly this evening trying to get away from the big threatening creatures and didn't have the sense to leave the way it came? Yeah. You have less sense than that bat. You know saying anything in response to a political rant from Mom ends badly. Stop doing it.

Mom's all kinds of stressed today. Apparently Dad has no health insurance. This should not be so, given that he's a military retiree. Dear Mom, this is why I want single-payer health care.

Also Mom forwarded me a chain letter. Something to the effect of praying the rosary in the 1500s turned back an invading fleet, and imagine what would happen if a great many Catholics all prayed the rosary for peace between noon and three on Good Friday. Dear Mom, not Catholic.

Rosary. Hm. There's a thought for the Big Bang. Do we have any idea what Mary's religious affiliation is, other than one of the sects of Christianity that likes angels? Because if 'Catholic' is plausible, I could get some good mileage out of a rosary.

Yogaed. It has clearly been far too long since I've done warrior pose. Or the plank sequence. By way of keeping track, I did seven of the plank sequence. Upper-body strength, here I come.

Giving serious consideration to modifying my routine, where I can, to include a twenty-minute comedy show I'd be watching anyway (Daily Show or Colbert Report or Big Bang Theory, or apparently Community—she stirs the pot! she is a pot-stirrer!) during which I do not sit at the computer and instead I step up and step down and step up and step down on this exercise step thing that's supposed to go with exercise DVDs Mom has never used.

Broke two thousand words on the Big Bang! Only eighteen thousand words to go and thirty-some days to go in. That's still doable, right? Right? *crickets* Coherence, I not has it. Plot, I not has it either. I'd be doing ever so much better if I could write dialogue.

My Big Bang cracked thirteen hundred words! Poor, poor Mary. Also, wtf was I thinking signing up to write Weechesters?

Mary has books of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, which she'd much rather read to the boys, but Sammy insists he can read them for himself and Dean never wants a story read out of a book. Sammy likes the stories Mary knows by heart, too.

These are the only stories Mary knows.
