Please don't tell me I need to write a fic explaining why Brock was willing to leave Pewter City given his responsibility to his family. For those of you who haven't seen early Pokémon in forever, or ever: Brock was sole caretaker of a horde of small siblings. The mom died and the dad ditched, possibly not in that order. The dad came back, and there's a scene at the end of the ep with Brock reciting at top speed all the things the dad would need to know to properly take care of the kids—but it seems to me the dad was gone long enough to be a functional stranger to the older kids and a total stranger to the younger ones. And Brock himself wasn't real happy to see the guy. So why was Brock willing to take off with Ash? Especially since that's literally what the dad did, is vanish for ages to train Pokémon.

(This is a big enough fandom somebody's probably already written that fic, but I haven't personally seen it. Also I have not nearly enough recent canon familiarity to answer this with any certainty, but I don't recall from previous canon familiarity ever seeing or hearing from Brock's siblings ever again...)

(why no, I don't have any familiarity with the Japanese-names-are-better side of Pokémon fandom...I know Ash = Satoshi and Misty = Kasumi, but beyond that, no idea.)
