A week or so ago, I happened to wander through the local library book sale. (It's really more of a baby used bookstore in the library lobby.) Got me a beautiful old copy of Bulfinch's Mythology, something else I forget, and Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
Saturday night? Sunday afternoon? Down in the green room during the Poe performance, anyway, Kevin, the guy who performed Poe's "Alone" and "The Black Cat", mentioned he was directing the next play after Charlie Brown. Namely, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. I should go out for it, he said. I told him no, I wouldn't be able to make weekday evening rehearsals. I should go out for it anyway, he said.
Now Dad is telling me that Director Nancy is telling him that this is unusual behavior for Director Kevin, and "He must think you ave skills and/or envisions you in a particular part."
I can take a hint, honestly. (Auditions are Dec 6-8, I believe. Dunno times.) But AAAAAAAAAA. Especially since I don't want to do another show. I mean, I really do, but for assorted reasons including "this was scary" and "I don't have time", I really don't.
(Anyway, it's plausible Director Kevin is just afraid not enough people will show up to auditions. Apparently R&G—Dad insists on abbreviating the play name to "Rosencrantz", and as #yuletide will understand, this messes with my head—apparently R&G is usually done with fourteen people, Director Kevin thinks he can manage with twelve if he cross-casts some of the expected more-women-than-men because the characters are mostly men, and he told us explicitly that if he can't get enough people for R&G, he'll do something else rather than do this "half-assed".)
