alexseanchai: Green lightning (Lightning green)
I hesitate to say "if it isn't written down, it didn't/won't happen". Because a lot happens that is never recorded, both in the broad and the narrow sense (that is, the worldwide and the personal). Or the recording is lost or destroyed somehow (see also, the library of Alexandria and linkrot). But that's more or less one of the principles I operate on. If a thing I need to do is not written down somewhere that I can refer back to, it pretty much ain't gonna happen. (If it is written down, it still might not happen, or not in a timely fashion. But its odds of happening are greatly increased.)

I'm also really fond of the tada list. I believe I swiped this concept from [personal profile] kaberett. You know Susan's anti-monster poker in Hogfather, and possibly in other Discworld I have yet to read? The tada list is an excellent anti-brainweasel poker. It's particularly useful against the brainweasel whose lines go "you are a useless person, look how little you have done today".

In conclusion, [community profile] do_it. And Wunderlist.† And HabitRPG. And personal journals. And notepads in purse. And sticky notes...

† School list on Wunderlist: currently at 93 items. School doesn't even start again until Jan 5, but one of my courses is already open and has all the term's assignments ready to go. Yes, I spent part of Christmas exploring Canvas‡ and putting all the assignments into Wunderlist. Better than trying to family togetherness.

‡ CANVAS HAS DISPLAY NAMES. No more legalname bullshit from people who forgot that my name as visible on Blackboard isn't the name to address me by! I mean, I still have to tell them my legalname so the professor can grade my crap properly and so anyone who wants to email me (at my Oregon State email, of course) can, but the name they all see will be my name! I was almost in tears when I discovered this, y'all. Also, no more crappy Blackboard rich-text editor! Canvas still has an RTE, but it has an HTML editor too. I just have to remember to insert all the p tags, because it's not as user-friendly as Dreamwidth—two Enter key presses doesn't equal a paragraph break in the Canvas HTML editor.

I gotta admit, I'm gonna lazyass this post: "Anaktoria" by Alex Conall.

(original poem as translated from Sappho's Greek by Anne Carson)

Oh hey it's one am.

...Christmas isn't over yet, because I still have a friends-of-family Christmas party Friday and an extended-family Christmas party Saturday. BOO.

(trying to write a poem, something about Christmas spirit crushing cheerfulness. but the first line wants to be "you're a mean one, Mx. Grinch". and uh that doesn't scan the same as the original because "Mx." is one syllable where "Mr." is two.)

Annie is the sweetest film. I love how they updated the story for the smartphone / social media era.

...hey, you know what I just realized about Annie?

Do not read further if you are and wish to remain unspoiled. )
