So there are friending memes and things going around and people might see me around and want to get to know me a little! Therefore, this post. (Which is edited from its initial version, because I decided to turn it into my sticky post.)

I am increasingly posting almost everything under lock instead of publicly. I do not particularly care for this change, but certain persons who I do not care to name make it necessary.

I tend to grant access in sporadic batches, after I have got to know people well enough to recognize your respective handles. I realize this is an approach that, in combination with the previous paragraph, makes it difficult to make friends.

A note about journal rules: Don't be ableist. Don't be racist. Don't be sexist or homophobic or transphobic or or or or. I'm not perfect on any of these issues, I admit, but to the best of your ability, keep the bigotry out of my journal.

I am:

So somebody on Facebook was looking for "internationally inclusive placeholder/persona names". My standard list of such begins "Alice, Bob, Cathy, Dan". Um, hi, internalized racism, guess I haven't managed to evict you yet. So I bounced around behindthename.com for a while, and here's the list I came up with of gender-neutral placeholder given names from as many cultures as I could fit into the list, one name per letter of the English alphabet. (There's some overlap in what cultures they come from, but there's hardly any names of European origin.) I am putting the list here so I do not lose it.

I don't know if there's enough creative content in the below list to qualify it for copyright protection. I don't care, either. CC0. Have fun.

the list )

* This list has been amended from its original form: the original W name was 'Wattana', which a Thai person has informed me is not a personal name and not Thai. Her suggestions were all gendered, and she says she can think of no gender-neutral Thai names.

So the first chronological Toby Daye story (thus far) by Seanan McGuire, "Rat-Catcher", has a fascinating scene. Cut for spoilers:

spoilers for the story, anyway. not so much spoilers for the novels. well, maybe a minor spoiler for one of the novels, but I forget which. )

So you probably all know that I'm genderqueer and have so identified for a few years now. A few months back, I got to thinking (possibly even prompted by "Rat-Catcher", though I'm not sure): the name my parents gave me, 'Elizabeth', is an explicitly feminine name. So is the name I chose from that, 'Ellie'. For that matter, so is 'Murasaki'.

I'm only sometimes female. I'm not real feminine. And I'm half Irish by ancestry and not Japanese at all.

'Seanchai' means 'storyteller'. The word is from Ireland, pronounced 'shanachee', with the 'ch' like a 'k' in that Gaelic way, as in 'loch'. 'Alex' is short for 'Alexandria', and I insist the long name (being, y'know, a city, with inhabitants of all genders) is as gender-neutral as the short name, though it is read as feminine as often as I am. Alexandria is of course the city of the famous library, and its name derives from two Greek words: the pertinent one, 'alexo', means 'to defend, help'. I'm keeping the surname I chose, Conall; you may notice that my professional account at elizabethconall is now [personal profile] alexconall. As for the timing, today's my twenty-fifth birthday, which seems an auspicious time for such a change. Also, Yuletide's over.

Elizabeth is gone. Alex is here.

Spam me with your tastiest high-veggie, high-fruit, and high-calorie recipes, please? My therapist commented that it didn't sound like I'm eating much, so today (which was an average day foodwise) I was counting calories, and lo and behold I am not eating enough veggies or fruits or calories overall. I only have one day's data, but if we subtract the pita chips I only ate because the total-calories-so-far number was awful low and we add in the dinner I have not yet had, I'm coming in at ~1500 calories when I should be at 2000, with no veggies or fruit and not enough dairy.

Ideally I want things that refrigerate well, have inexpensive ingredients, and aren't too time-consuming to prepare, in no particular order. I've no dietary restrictions I know of.

Hover your mouse here.[*] In related questions (I swear it's related), anyone know how I would go about finding Enochian swear words? DuckDuckGo is unhelpful.

I don't know if either hover text or footnotes are accessible. Help? Also, how might I go about distinguishing the hover-over-able text from the ordinary text, for both visual and screenreader users?
