So apparently there is a "Letter from Birmingham Jail Award", and the first recipient is Chief Justice Roy Moore of Alabama. You know. The guy who's been saying Alabama county clerks shouldn't issue marriage licenses to queer couples because Sanctity Of The Family, despite the federal ruling saying they should.

I'll be over here imagining the horrified look on Dr. King's face. I can't, of course, be certain whether he actually would support or oppose marriage equality, but this is the person who wrote "Injustice everywhere is a threat to justice anywhere." In the Letter from Birmingham Jail.

I get to make dinner tonight!

...what am I making for dinner tonight?

I always want to do something Ambitious and Different, but Mom doesn't want to make a special trip to buy whatever I need for my Ambitious and Different (whatever that is), because she was just grocery shopping yesterday. So I am limited to ingredients on hand. Which doesn't entirely rule out Ambitious and Different...

Maybe I'll make a teriyaki. We seem to have lots of teriyaki sauce.

ETA: Teriyaki, yes. Tomorrow, apparently, because Mom says so (the beef just came out of the freezer so she wants it to thaw the slow way). Okay, whatever.

So about that week and a half off.

Manager thinks I can manage if I take over one of the temporarily empty desks down the other end where no one to her knowledge has been having trouble with the paint fumes, esp since painters have definitely finished this time. (She called last night to say so but I missed it.) I am Not Convinced, and I am Not Going In Today, but given this knowledge Mom thinks I should forget the week off and go in Mon 20th instead of Mon 27th. (Or at least, forget the week off if going in Mon 20th proves that manager's solution is workable.)

I don't want to go in next week.

(Also I already put in the leave slip under the assumption that I would be taking off next week.)

The Tree That Owns Itself (or "Son Of The Tree That Owns Itself") is a thing. Self-owning trees are a thing. I have learned something marvelous today.

Son Of The Tree That Owns Itself

Next silly question. Why is this tree unique? Why do we collectively feel entitled to individually assert ownership over all other trees, except this one because of some 1800s weirdo who decided to liberate this one particular tree? (Or rather the parent of this particular tree, which is deemed to have inherited its land from the previous tree, which got knocked down by a storm decades ago.) There is an epic ecofeminist article waiting to be written here!
