1) Pasta e fagioli (Mom's friend Jeff's recipe). I didn't even have to make it.

2) That pain-reliever goo.

3) One can almost see carpet in this basement, I've made so much progress tidying.

4) The local UU newsletter hit my inbox today, and I want to go to all four May services.

(Well, all five, but it's a lil late for the first one. I just need to wake up early enough Sunday mornings...)

5) I crocheted some yesterday. My rainbow lapghan progresses.

6) I have a hook for a blog post I've been meaning to write.

7) I don't have to empty the dishwasher tonight or tomorrow morning. And loading and running it (like ought to have been done earlier tonight) is Not My Job.

8) I have the most gorgeous blue and white glass beads in two sizes for An Project. Seriously stunning. (And inexpensive, because AC Moore.)

(Also made in China, because AC Moore, but. Oh well. I just hope the cord I bought is both thin enough, 'cause these beads do not have real large holes, and sturdy enough, 'cause it's probably in for some hard wear. What I ought to do is buy beads with BIG holes and then leather or faux-leather cord, and use the beautiful glass beads for Other Projects...but I didn't see any beads with appropriately big holes at AC Moore.)

9) I also have "Follow Your Heart" charms. I forget where these came from or what they were for, so: Hello new earrings!

(...if I can not break the little loop on the earhooks when I bend it open or closed!)

10) Tarot card of the day, still with the Motherpeace deck: Shaman of Cups, turned partway between left and upright. Left is holding back from responsibilities. Upright is discipline and competence and professionalism. I read this to mean I'm moving from that left to that upright—I'm on the right track.

(Know what's gonna be interesting? Spreads with rotated-90-degrees cards using round cards. Reversed and upright are easy enough to tell with rectangular cards as long as one is consistent in the direction of rotating the 90 degrees. Round cards, that have meanings four different ways? Uh, not so much. I should maybe have thought of this before blithely offering Celtic Cross spreads. I'll still do 'em! Maybe even tonight! But it's gonna be Interesting.)

One of the Celtic Cross spreads I owe people is done hurrah. Four more and two past-present-future spreads to go. This one frankly read clear as mud to me, but (not being the querent) I am missing context, and hopefully it makes sense to the querent!

I'm working on clearing my obligations slash creative-tasks slate in order to have a chance to sit and think about obligations and creative tasks and desires and yadda etc. I think it's working, but I can't be sure yet, I haven't got a clean slate yet. Or a clean inbox, Gmail drafts folder, Gmail starred folder, desk, basement, or bedroom. All of which I'm hoping to have (and to keep) by the time this burst of Fix All The Things wears off.

...brain, that makes it Not a good time to open another tarot draw. Honestly.

Definitely still want the bachelor of arts in women's, gender, and sexuality studies, with queer studies and writing minors. Am registered for two summer courses: the poetry course advances that aim, the economics course does not. Do not particularly want to take the economics course; do want to have passed it so that the F from last time will no longer be on my transcript. Not taking it will save me a four-digit chunk of change over taking it and paying for it myself, but taking it and getting my employer to pay for it* will also save me a four-digit chunk of change over taking it and paying for it myself. Taking it some term other than this summer will save me a four-digit chunk of change this summer but I will have to pay that money when I do take it (assuming I don't get my employer to pay for it*). Also if I take both courses this summer, I'm more than half time and can defer federal student loan payments in August and September (I can definitely defer starting in October either way, since full-time student status resumes end of September, but if I only take the poetry then I'm not and I can't.

I don't think I'm actually looking for external opinions here. Just putting the pros-cons out there (again) and trying to figure out whether having passed this course is worth having to take (and if applicable pay for*) this course.

* I do not want to deal with the person in charge of education money from my employer. Do not. She doesn't like me.

"Okay, I will do one 20/10 of cleaning, then go walk around the neighborhood, then shower, then go to work early for overtime."

*faffs about the Internet for twenty minutes, and not cleaning out the inbox either*

Discipline. I need self-discipline.

Okay, why do I not have any cope today?

*runs down a couple different self-care checklists*

...right, because I don't have the cope to do things that will increase my cope or otherwise make me feel better. Fucking forks model.

I did not key the truck with the Blue Lives Matter sign. Not sure whether personal achievement or personal failure.

Flowering trees all along my commute.

Gorgeous day. Working in basement. Hot basement, too, AC's off still, and of course no lovely cool breeze. Gah.

Got some walk anyway: got to work about 20 min early, lapped the green rather than going right inside. Shoulda second lap. Beautiful day.

ICED COFFEE.

Listening to Pandemonaeon's (read: Sharon Knight's) "Joy to See Your Joy" and thinking.

It occurs to me that while trying to dig myself out of a depression downswing is probably not the best time to implement the KonMari Method, seeing as the key question of Kondo's thing is "Does it spark joy?" Because frankly an honest answer at this time to that question regarding literally anything I own or do would be "no". Mild to moderate happiness? Sure, felt that a few times recently. (Mom's lilacs are blooming!) Joy? Uh, not so much.

Fuck depression.

Marios Koutsoukos in Pillars of Humanity quotes what he attributes as an ancient Greek proverb: "implore Athena but move your own hand". No original Greek given, and DuckDuckGo draws a blank, so either he's full of shit (possible but I hope unlikely) or that's not the common translation.

Can anyone source this for me, or quote a better or more common translation? For reasons. Thanks!

ETA: apparently "God helps those who help themselves" is what I'm looking for. Which I thought was a distinctly Christian turn of phrase—which it might still be as that wording isn't a direct translation of the Aesop or Sophocles or Euripides or Babrius. But I shoulda Wikied first, clearly.

ETA2: seems there's a story about a sinking ship where someone aboard was praying to Athena for rescue and someone else advised he try swimming ("moving his arms" is how Wiki quotes it). Further details in History of the Graeco-Roman Fables vol 3. Available on Google Books wait no ha ha you fool. Available on Amazon used for nearly $300. Gaaaah. But at least I have an idea of where Koutsoukos's phrase came from, now.
