The topic of tattoos has once again wandered across my reading page. I'm thinking I want simple lines of black text:

guard your eggshell heart, for the moon tells lies

if I'm brave and if I'm bold, I can challenge what's forbidden

some little things got left out, and a little means a lot

an island's not a prison, that's what folk make bridges for

Going back and forth on we will be wicked and we will be fair. But I think four's probably plenty, don't you? Esp since I dunno where I want the ink (I'm pretty sure dress code at work says no visible tattoos) and I don't have the money!

(if you are blinking at me confusedly, the italics are quotes from five different Seanan McGuire songs)

who think they're entitled to own all the land, and there's still all these

I'ma have to start planning my meals for once I get my apartment. The vague idea, since I am quite familiar with cooking for seven, is to make two to four family-size meals on Saturday, put the lot in single-Alex-serving containers in the fridge, and that's my food for the week. The vague idea is also to have each single-Alex-serving run me approximately a buck to a buck fifty, with the full range of macro- and micronutrients going in my face on a regular basis.

My mother has no opinion on whether this is doable. She does not plan her menus by dollars per serving. However, she did do the math on the price of the pizza we had for dinner, and figures it came out to four dollars a pie excluding toppings. Which, since a single-Alex-serving of pizza is a quarter of one of those pies, is right in the sweet spot.

My brother thinks this is not only doable but toppable. By which he means, his meal planning is better than mine. This is the guy who thinks rice and beans and spices are an excellent month's worth of meals (just vary the spices) and who makes box mac and cheese without milk because dairy is too pricey. (If you are unfamiliar with box mac and cheese: you've got the pasta and the cheese powder that come in the box, and you add margarine and milk. Most of the nutritional content is in the milk.) It's not financial constraints, it's a constitutional aversion to spending money. (Dad actually had a bet on with someone about what would win when brother moved out, brother's hatred of cooking or brother's hatred of spending money. Since brother never eats out and since brother doesn't cook so much as dump things in a pot and heat it through, Dad and his friend decided they'd both lost.)

I so do not have energy tonight and I don't really expect to have time this coming week (esp not for the "go window shop the supermarket" bit!), but soon I've got to plan out an example month of meals and then go to Redner's and price all the ingredients. And then, I'm sure, rework the menu!
