okay all y'all feminist horror fans, go acquire you a copy of Seanan
McGuire's Creature Feature from CD Baby, so you can listen to
"Hackslash", that song was made for you
alexseanchai: calligraphy: "the beauty of words" (the beauty of words)
(Because I consume horror hardly at all and consequently don't know its
tropes well enough to do this notion justice.)

The one where a horror movie's last girl standing decides that, okay,
she's alive—yay self—and she might not necessarily
have liked or even known the other victims very well, but dammit they
shouldn't have had to die
. And she goes out, and maybe finds a few
other horror-movie last-girls-standing who had the same idea, and starts
teaching people how to survive, even—especially—if
they're the sort of person who tends to be the horror movie victims.
Feminist empowerment sort of thing, and no I haven't been
listening to Seanan McGuire's "Hackslash" on repeat, I haven't, I promise,
why are you all looking at me funny? (Special nod to her "Protective
Coloration", too.)

If anyone was waffling about preordering Seanan McGuire's Every Heart a Doorway (premise: portal fantasy survivors' support group, or some such thing), she has just confirmed on Twitter that one of the leads is explicitly asexual. Hurrah representation!
