I have left a message on the asthma doc's nurses' line to ask about alternative—that is to say, not anxiety-spiking—emergency inhalers. They'll get back to me eventually, and if not then I have an appointment already scheduled in four weeks and I can bring it up then.
However. I am informed that alternatives are likely to be significantly more expensive than albuterol. I have enough fucking trouble affording the albuterol. And "spend most of a day of sick leave [rather than earning a couple hours of time and a half pay]" is a radically less expensive option than "get an emergency inhaler that's that much more expensive than albuterol".
Fuckaroni.
Also I am tempted to just show up at work at eight am tomorrow and work till ten-thirty pm when my scheduled shift ends. (Coworker L has expressed the same temptation. I haven't seen her actually doing it, though.) I mean, I'd take breaks, because I like not flipping out due to having worked too many hours in a row. But depending on how much break time, that would net me five or six hours of time-and-a-half pay. This is a bad idea, really, but I might do it anyway, just 'cause money. I can't implement this plan today because, aside from having woken up after nine, I have an appointment this afternoon.
And, I mean, I appreciate work ensuring my three-day weekend given the Fourth is a state holiday, but that didn't seem to matter last summer with all the mandatory overtime, and it's not like we're getting significantly less behind on routine work—can't we have voluntary overtime Saturday anyway? I need the money. :(
