—I figured out what bugs me about this course. This lecture I'm listening to keeps using the words "Puritans believed" and "Some Puritans claimed to have [seen, heard, etc]" and such like. That's a perfectly accurate, dispassionate description, I'm sure. But "claimed" allows the possibility that these people were mistaken or lying about their experiences, and "believed" carefully separates the thing believed in from what is real, and the effect to my ear sounds very like "none of this is real, but isn't it academically interesting?"
And now I have to listen to that 20min lecture over again because I otherwise couldn't hardly tell you a word of what Dr. K was lecturing on—she has transcribed the audio of the lectures fairly close into the corresponding slides' notes, so why didn't she this time?—and also listen to the subsequent 40min lecture and also do the discussion post following the lectures and also get to work before four please note it's past three.
*throws up hands* WHY DO I PROCRASTINATE. WHYYYY.
