duckduckgo hates me or something
Jun. 14th, 2019 04:46 pmGabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve wrote other things than La Belle et la Bête. Wiki says. Wiki doesn't tell me anything but their titles. Wiki gives me synopses of a few of the works of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont that aren't the abridged version of Villeneuve's best-known work, but none of them match this:
BELLE: Well it's my favorite! (BELLE swings off side of ladder, rolling down its track) Far off places, daring swordfights, magic spells, a prince in disguise! What is she reading? Like, is there a book that could plausibly historically exist in 1770s-ish France that meets this description and exists in English synopsis, at least, somewhere on the internet? Or should I just make shit up? And if the latter, where am I going to get an idea of the themes and images Belle's book could, without anachronism, have? Lang's rainbow Fairy Books?

BELLE: Oh! Isn't this amazing! It's my favorite part because, you'll see! Here's where she meets Prince Charming But she won't discover that it's him 'til chapter three!
