17:00: got the casing off
17:05: old hard drive out, new one in, a process that involved one "wait that's the wrong screw" and two "…that's upside down…"
17:15: back together, Windows recovery flash drive in, booting…recovery in progress!
18:00: Windows is up! OneDrive is automatically retrieving everything for me! …now to put all my settings and stuff back where I want them…
(this was actually pretty painless, though I am distressed by how the power cord that computer doctor gave me after misplacing the one that was in my laptop bag when I handed them my laptop does not seem to be charging my battery)
