As you can see poorly in the top pic and rather better in the bottom pic, I spinned!
The resulting yarn is...uneven, ranging from super-bulky to I-have-met-thicker-crochet-thread, sometimes in the same three-inch span. But I spun it!
And now I am soaking it in a mixing bowl full of hot water to set the twist, and then I will hang it off a doorknob with a couple coat hangers to weigh it down so as to convince it not to twist back on itself. And then I may make something with it, though what I could make with such uneven yarn I'm not sure. But first I'm going to look into how I would go about dyeing it purple. (It is currently undyed.) I expect I will not end up dyeing it at all, but purple would be nice.
ETA: Little spray bottle instead of coat hangers, because my coat hangers seem to be too light. Whatever.
Looks like I can get a lovely purple with Wilton Violet food coloring but nowhere on that site can I find anything that looks like instructions for how to achieve this.
I'd rather the Wilton Hannah Montana Purple hue, but that food coloring doesn't seem to exist anymore.
ETA2: I should have forethought and planning better. Apparently I was supposed to do the dye step after the soak step and before the stretch step. And I have not got any food coloring!
